Alexander Chen, a Creative Director at Google Creative Lab, has used Processing to visualize notes sung in a Beach Boys’ vocals-only version of Brian Wilson’s “You Still Believe In Me.” Each note sung in the harmonies is represented in shimmering circles, sometimes concentric, sometimes adjacent. The size of the circles are influenced by the relative size and tone of church bells. I get the size correlation, but I can’t figure out the placement.
After listening twice with the audio, I muted it and just watched. I wonder if we can come to “read” visual music and arrive at the same emotional connections.
